This nationally televised (ESPNU) Western Athletic Conference match up features two teams in completely different situations. Hawaii is coming off a 23 pt loss @ SJSU and featured only one player in double digits, a little known guard named Leroy Lutu. This team is done. They are currently 0 and 4 on the road and have been blown out in those contests. The sitting of Dwain Williams a couple weeks back has really changed the character of this team and you would have to question its motivation in a cold temperature Nevada. It is well known that this team, that returned upper division starters, has underachieved this year. We will see how long into the off season the coach lasts. The one scoring threat, Roderick Flemings, was held to single digits in the last game. This team is shooting horrible free throws, lack luster 3 pointers, and demonstrates bad defense. Despite this, the team is averaging 72ppg. However, on the road the team is averaging ten points less. Nevada, also, scores a lot of points averaging 82 ppg. This team is 4 and 3 in conference and has not performed as well of late. This is the only game they will be playing in a 13 day stretch (6 days behind and 7 days ahead). Upcoming, they have a match against Utah St, the elite of the conference. There shouldn't be much concern about them looking ahead because this game is 7 days out. Coach Carter has stressed during this stretch of time off a return to basics. This opportunity to practice will have Nevada ready for a downward spiraling Hawaii. Nevada strength comes from F Luke Babbit. In the last 9 games he has had a double double in 7 of them and missed the eighth by one rebound. The fact of the matter is that this game will get ugly, quick. This is obvious by the -15 that Las Vegas has put on this game. However, Nevada should easily cover this number pushing the win margin into the twenties. The large chalk has kept the West Coast Capper at only 1 unit on this game, taking Nevada -15.

This Western Athletic Conference match-up features one team on the top and the other on the way down. Fresno State was supposed to be a much improved team this year and has shown brief glimpses of this. However, of late they are on a 3 game slide including a 26 point loss to Utah State on Thursday. One reason for this blow out is the loss of one of their key starters, F Paul George. Now the Freshman Greg Smith will have to step in. Greg Smith, a player recruited by many of the nation's top schools, has performed very well coming off the bench. This, however, will be a new role. Additionally, PG Steven Shepp has returned to the line-up after being kept out of the games on their last road trip because of academic issues. These Bulldogs will be facing the Nevada team that has been playing very well since conference play has started. They are led by their 6.9 Forward Luke Babbit. Babbit has scored a Double Double in 6 of the last 8 games and missed one of them buy only one rebound. He is one of the best free throwers in the country averaging over 90%. He is joined by very able guards in Johnson and Fields. The team has been shooting very well passing 50% in 5 of their last games and shooting in the upper 40s in the others. Though Fresno State has a minor height advantage the absence of George almost negates this. Nevada needs to keep pace with flying Utah State so will come out ready to steal the road victory. Capper has this game at Nevada -4 and will play the -4 for one unit (out of 3)
